Where can I go skating in the state of Maine, USA?
I didn't find an easy answer to this question, so I created this website. It includes a collection of information focused on places for public skating in Maine.
How does it work?
Users can search for ice rinks by location, type of rink, or other criteria. The website provides information about each location, including address, contact information, and availability. Users can also submit new locations or report ice status with existing listings.
Where does it get its information?
Some locations have websites that contain additional information, like whether the ice rink is open or closed, hours of operation, special events etc. This website automatically aggregates some of this information for easy access.
User Location Data
If a user gives the website access to user location data, ice rinks are sorted based on distance from the user. Additionally, users that are located in close proximity to an ice rink can submit an Ice Skating Report that indicates the ice status of the rink.
Ice Skating Reports
An ice skating report is a user-submitted report that indicates the skating status of a location - eg the ice is nice, the ice is poor, the ice is snowy, the location is closed etc. Other users can see what the latest reports are before deciding to visit.
Why are the defunct locations in the search list?
They are in the list to provide visibility for locations that are referenced on old websites. Or for users that are searching for a particular rink but are unaware that it is no longer active.
